Al Gore 2008 Running Mate?

A lot of folks are pondering several “what-if” scenarios for the 2008 election. One of the discussions is over Al, and if he did run, who’d his running mate might be. How interesting it would be if he teamed up with Hillary, and notch a reverse 1996 ticket, ie. Gore/Clinton. Other than Hillary, though, who do you think would be a nice compliment as VP with Gore?

Though their are a number of people that would qualify, possibly senator edwards. BUT, the person must, on top of domestic and international issues, be seriously commited to the enviroment and willing to make strong permanant changes. The perfect start would be to sign and lead the Koyoto Treaty.

I think Al Gore should pick Senator Even Bahy of Indiana as his runnin mate
because he would help in the Mid-West and could not only bring in one
Red state “Indiana” but maybe even Ohio as well

Yes, as we head on a collision course with our planet due to climate change and perhaps another war in Iran that will bring us into the abyss NOW, let’s just sit and BS over something inconsequential like that. Thank God Mr. Gore is not vapid like the people who run these sites.

I hope it wouldn’t be Hillary - I was hoping Gore could save us from her. I would like to see someone who had a more balanced approached to the Palestinian/Israel conflict than we have had in recent history.

I would argue strongly against a Gore/Clinton ticket. From what I’ve heard, there isn’t much camaraderie between Al and Hillary, and I would want someone who would work with our president-in-exile once he becomes our president in actuality. I would want someone who will add to the campaign, and I don’t see Hillary adding votes.

For me the running-mate that would turbo-charge a Gore candidacy would be Barack Obama. As a veep, he would confer all the plusses and none of the minuses of him as a candidate. He would still bring excitement to the race, and he could still use his rock star status to get people fired up about the contest.

I will keep it simple: Please run for president again! Give Florida another chance! You will have my vote again! Your film “An Inconvenient Truth” touched my heart and my mind. At the end of the film with tears running down my cheeks all I could think was “our only hope is if Al Gore runs, please run again al… please.” Also, our environment is not the only major issue that concerns me. The horrible situation with Student Loans has hit me personally. You can view my story on studentloanjustice.org under the state of New Mexico. It is a serious problem as you may see if you read other stories of people fleeing our government, committing suicide and living in poverty all because they… we cannot afford to pay that amount we are being required to pay monthly. Thank you for your compassion in this matter and the environment!

I’d love to see Al run but think he needs to do 2 things first:

    1) get back to his VP weight

    2) include having 1-2-child families in “things to do to reduce global warming.” Unless world population is reduced all the other “savings” will be undone by the increase in people.

Please run for president again! The US needs a president that is very concerned about the global warming issue. We need a man of your vision and intelligence. Please keep talking about this issue until all people in the US get the message. I speak to many who still do not know or think that this is a matter of if not when and dont perceive how fast this is going to hit the world. We need strong leadership and you VP Gore are it!

My ‘choice for Al’s running mate in 2008 will mystify most of my friends who know me as being considerablly left of center in my politics.

I would choose Pat Buchannan and advertise a national unity campaign.
As FDR VP John Nance Garner said and VP Gore can tell you, there is no power in the office and in political terms “It is not worth a warm pitcher of spit.” Pat is an honest conservative, unlike the neo-cons. IJ disagree with him on most issues. But as a leftest populist- I would rather see a conservative populists than corporativists like Hillary, Dodd, Biden etc.

But I also trust Al to make his own wise choice. He knows what he needs to help him get elected and push his agenda. I say trust Al,

I would really strongly recommend a ticket of Gore/Bayh, Gore/Bradley, or Gore/Warner. I think that Mark Warner, the former Governor of Virginia who is relatively popular in an increasingly trending Democratic state especially Northern Virginia and the DC Suburbs where all of the population is going to anyways, would be superb. Plus he has a strong record and helped get Tim Kaine elected. I view Mark Warner as a Bill Clinton succeeding to Tim Kaine as an Al Gore.

I think Evan Bayh of Indiana is probably the best chance to have a good running mate coming from swing state Indiana and an attractive Midwesterner that could tilt the Midwest in Indiana Ohio and Missouri let alone the Gore 2000 and Kerry 2004 states in the Midwest.

And why not his former rival from 2000, Bill Bradley. Bill Bradley and him both went with Howard Dean in 2004 as an endorsement before Dean imploded. It might be a potential good thing for Bill Bradley to be made VP with an Al Gore candidacy.

And Evan Bayh is eerily similar in comparison to Al Gore.

Hillary would be the PERFECT choice. I’m voting for her if Gore doesn’t run, but if he does…it’s a no-brainer…Gore all the way! Hillary would then have the Presidency handed to her in 2016, and 2020. Hey, by then, Chelsea could take over from 2024 - 2032!

Gore/Bill Richardson. Richardson is very qualified, will put New Mexico in the Gore column (not a huge number of electoral votes but a key state in what will be a close election) and will be a solid VP.

I think that after running with Leiberman, Gore might have concern over running with someone of a “minority”, (though why a Jewish white man is a minority is beyond me), but I think that possibly the only thing that can save our country right now is a Gore/Obama presidency. If only Gore would run!!

My 2008 Dream Team would be Gore/Richardson. The two of them would be dedicated to a comprehensive environmental policy that would include not only global warming, but renewable energy incentives and all the security issues around decreasing our need for foreign oil. Secondly, the other major White House task int he coming years will be to bring the US back to a respected place in the world community where a moral nation is leading with diplomacy to bring peace and decency around the world, not war, torture and all the other disasters we have seen in the last 6 years. Al Gore and Bill Richardson have proven skills in both these vital areas.

As a secondary choice I could be very enthusiastic about a Gore/Obama ticket.

  23. Big Bob said,

Gore/Richardson sounds like a winner to me too :)

Richardson is a superbly-qualified candidate who, unfortunately, will be marginalized by the process.
Al Gore and Bill Richardson would be the most competent, fully-prepared, ready to govern — effectively — from day one ticket in history!

I don’t know how we leave Obama off as VP without causing resentments? He’s the real deal, just not ready to be president yet. Ideally, serving as VP would prepare him for 2012/2016. But, we can’t put all deserving candidates on the ticket.

And what to do about Hillary?
If Al doesn’t run, I could enthusiastically support a Clinton/Obama or Clinton/Richardson ticket.
I don’t like pushing Hillary aside, but Al Gore *IS* the man!

John Edwards would make a great cabinet secretary (Justice, Labor, and Health and Human Services come to mind), but I see him adding nothing to a national ticket if Gore is our nominee.
And, please God, help Al Gore realize just how much he is needed now.

  24. Big Bob said,

    May 22, 2007 @ 11:14 am

    And another thing…

Chuck Hagel (a Republican) would make a great Secretary of Defense.
He could even be a superb VP choice if Al decides to pursue a “Democratic/Republican unity ticket” agenda.

BTW, if Bill Richardson is not on the ticket, I think he would make an incredibly effective Secretary of State :)

I trust Al Gore and think he could revolutionize the way people think because he believes in inveromental problems, and is one of the first government official to think what would be good for the United States and for the world. He thinks what does the world need instead of what do i want when he makes important decisions.

Al Gore for Green Party President 2008
Why don’t you post similar and drag Al Gore into the 2008 Presidency as the GREEN CANDIDATE?
Help me PLASTER THE WEB with this concept!!!

Please, if someone can get this to him, show this to (President) VP. Gore ASAP?

Since the Democrats are a shameful embarassment of a political party, Gore should run as Green zcandidate for 2008!

    Dem’s suck because:

    1. Voted yes to War & Patriot Act,
    2. Didn’t force a cap on Record Oil Profits (btw –> price fluxes were not based on ‘free market’ supply demand but 100% market manipulation by corps),
    3. Won’t even discuss Impeachment (why didn’t that happen to Pres. Clinton?),
    4. NO CANDIDATE will stand by Kucinich’s HR333!!,
    5. Poor investigation of Voter Fraud,
    6. Didn’t slam Bush for Hurricane Katrina incompetence,
    7. Allowing no-bid graft ‘donations’ to Halliburton,
    8. Funding ongoing Iraq fiasco,
    9. Didn’t nail Bush about lying to America about WMD’s, spilling an undercover agent’s name as political revenge, Gonzalez’ abuse of office, Scooter Libby’s scandal, Rove’s consistent violation of ethics standards,
    10. and so much more… (I’m keeping this list short for legibility, not for lack of issues)

The Dems are basically GIVING AWAY EVERYTHING Americans fought for.

So why not have Gore run as the GREEN PARTY Presidential Candidate?
    Reasons:

    1. He could win (I think he would win)
    2. He would force Democratic party to commit to some environmental platform (which he says is more important than him personally winning anything)
    3. He would permanently help the Green party (and hopefully all American 3rd parties AND representative elections instead of ‘winner take all’)
    4. The Dem’s betrayed him before
    5. He could keep his ethics and be 100% anti-war, 100% anti-corporate ‘collusion’, & 100% pro-environment

I SAY GORE FOR GREEN PRESIDENT 2008!

    He’d get my vote!

I think a Bill Richardson would be the best candidate for the VP spot. In the past you had to have a southern on the ballot one way or the other. But the South is really right winged and kookoo. So lets steal some western states that usually vote GOP. With Richardson we would get New Mexico and Arizonia. We would get the same states we got in 2000 and 2004. That spells victory.

    Scenario 1:
I think Gore should run in the Democratic primary. If he wins, I would like to see a Al Gore/Jim Web ticket. I like Obama, but I think the minority running mate would take away much needed moderate voters. Remember, a majority of black voters will vote for Gore either way. Web would help pull in some moderate voters.

    Scenario 2:
If Gore loses the Democratic primary, then I think an Al Gore/Pat Buchannan ticket would be a wonderful Independent choice. How could they lose? The only question is whether they could “pull off” supporting one another. They differ on alot of issues obviously, but I think America is ready for this kind of relationship… True partisonship!

Hmmm….The two most important issues in this country in my opinion - Free health care for every American and Becoming Environmentally conscious to reduce global warming. I think Hillary Clinton and Al Gore would be a great team for this. Hilary pushed national health care many years ago and received much criticism from many politicians, I think the time has come we learn something from other countries on this….it can be done.
