Al Gore - Nobel Peace Prize Candidate?
Early word out today : honorable Al Gore is an early, and strong, candidate for this years Nobel Peace Prize. The Oslo based Nobel committee is quite secretive in it’s nomination process, so no concrete announcement has been made as of yet. Global warming and the climate crisis seem to headline the nomination process this year. Canadian Sheila Watt-Cloutier, another well-respected and outspoken activist, is an additional early contender for the prize as well.
We’d like to wish all candidates the best of luck, though..
So…who do you think will win?
**UPDATE - Al Won! The News broke today! Now how about this as a springboard for President!**

Al Gore, the self-proclaimed “global climate change activist”, keeps trying to tell us how to live. You shouldn’t do this, you shouldn’t do that.
Really? Where’s our freedom of choice? When did America become a communist dictatorship?
What makes Al Gore qualified to comment on anything? This is a guy who couldn’t even beat George W. Bush. Who is perhaps the most unpopular president we’ve ever had (I love Bush!) and yet most Americans would pick Bush or even Homer Simpson to be president over Al Gore.
Do us all a favour Al, go and live in Cuba along with the rest of your communist friends, and leave us freedom loving Americans to make up our own minds.

It sickens me to see Al Gore take credit for raising the alarm about something Ralph Nader warned us about 40 years ago. Al Gore winning this award would put it right up there with the Grammys, the Oscars, and the Emmys. Given out to people for all the wrong reasons.

Thank you doesn’t seem to be a big enough word to express the gratitude of my family.
In the great tapestry of our lives.. we hope there will be some bright threads made of the right fiber and strength to hold the whole thing together.
Your work, your dedication and the love and sacrifices of your wife and children are like golden threads in our fabric.
Congradulations! I ask our holy father to give you strength to face the ‘critical factor’ in our society.
In a world where every politician’s speech is suspect.. You just walk the talk and that is so encouraging.

Congratulations, Mr. Gore, on the Nobel Peace Prize. I implore you to run for president, Mr. Gore. Your country needs you. I know that a presidential run is a huge sacrifice, but to paraphrase you, it’s not a political issue, it’s a moral issue. How can you, knowing you are the most qualified man for the job, NOT run? Of course, there is no guarantee that you will win, but I hope that you would put your whole heart into it, as you did over the climate crisis, when your country is in such a desperate state. So in the 90ties, we’ll try Global Warming, this time we’ll sprinkle money around.

Don’t be tempted to run for President. The world needs you to focus on global warming. Choose a candidate whom you respect and who respects you, whom you can trust to provide sorely needed leadership on this issue, and ENDORSE him/her!
If the world fails to mitigate global warming enough to avoid its most serious consequences, issues such as the Iraq war, health insurance, social conservatism, the economy, national indebtedness etc. will hardly matter in the long run.

Because of you the United States is finally owning up to the fact of which the rest of the world has known for years. It’s such a pity that American greed, and capacity for denial always seems to out-shadow the basic realities of the world today.
I just wish some of these same “nay sayers” would get off their butts and get out more often……It takes courage to face the challenges of this next generation.
The glaciers are melting, the seas are rising, and our populations and the demand for food they require is not sustainable.
Even if this was one big fiasco, who would benefit? Everyone benefits from a cleaner, more sustainable planet, especially our children…
The only ones who don’t are big oil, corrupt politicians, and corrupt media! Yes, the media….the same media who sent our sons and daughters to Iraq to fight for oil….fair and balanced….duh!
When will you open your eyes? If not for you, do it for your children. Don’t they, and all future generations deserve more?
It seems so many Americans are more interested in football, than what’s happening all around them.

I am no fan of George Bush. I’ve been concerned with the environment my entire life, and I am saddened that so many have bought Gore’s hyperbolic rants. His “documentary” is full of a lot of unproven, fear-driven information. But then these are probably the same simpletons that want their “Free” (ha!) healthcare Michael Moore propagandized in “Sicko.” My mother lives in France… not only is it not free, doctors are quitting to make more money at other jobs. Enough about that -
Are people afraid to question anymore? I believe anyone who doesn’t question is willing to believe anything simply because they do not like the other political side; otherwise why not question this man? He’s being treated by his screaming fans as if he’s some sort of savior. It’s truly sickening and scary to see how a film can affect people. People, why not pick up some books written by scientists with much more rational information? It’s okay to educate yourself. I guess people no longer read, it’s just easier to slurp up the hyperbolic rhetoric in one sitting dished out by Leo Di Caprio and Gore. How very sad.
Do you people not question how Gore continues to consume & waste fuel & energy (his silly concert; the stupid carbon credit scheme and his lifestyle - massive home, jets, etc) and has the nerve to lecture me. I am someone who has recycled and been environmentally thoughtful from way back in the 70s.
Now, as a small business owner who shares a car with my husband, I resent an energy-wasting, life-long politician telling me what to do.
And my musician husband resented you long before me when you and your silly wife were censoring music. Oh, nice hypocritcal move to have Snoop Dog on your concert’s bill, by the way. You’ve got a lot of nerve, I’ll give you that. Oh, thanks for the good laugh. Do you know how many photos after that concert showed trash strewn all over the floor. Why? Because any fool who would attend that energy wasting event was stupid enough not to truly care about the environment.
You, Mr. Gore, are a silly man that has a knack for publicity. Whoever your publicist is deserves and award for making even a ranting, censoring, fear-mongerer like you look legit. But I guess there are enough shallow humans who don’t want to question you.
Good luck with that!
Oh, and let me know when you get up in China’s and India’s faces about their pollution problem… ‘cuz I’ve feeling pretty futile trying to shut off my lights and not waste fuel when China’s pumping out black, toxic clouds.

One more thing -
This lady below wrote you such a flowery message, I wish I could ask her: Uh Bev, hun, where they heck have you been that it took a film to wake you up? Pick up some books at the library and a variety of opinions. That way you don’t need to be so completely grateful to a man with half-assed guesses about the future.
This is so sad.
Yes, I am concerned about the environment, but legitimately concerned. I’m also concerned about Darfur, North Korea, Iraq, AIDS - Snap out of it, people! Start reading and stop depending on rich politicians to dole out your information. Yikes!

Some of the comments on this page are quiet negative, but that is to be expected from extremists who are afraid of learning a new way to think about things. The truth is, even if some of the issues brought up on Al Gore’s movie end up being proven incorrect, the fact is that there are still global warming issues that are absolutely right in our face more and more each day. Who cares if he got all the facts right or wrong…and how do you know that the scientists who defy his facts are not being paid by the businesses who need to pollute to profit? That is how the beef industry operates…they pay scientists to tell you that you need to eat red meat so that you will buy red meat when in fact you will probably develop heart disease from eating red meat! The point is, Al Gore got the word out that Mother Nature is not a happy camper, that people are basically slobs when it comes to pollution, and that we all need to get it together and clean it up a bit. And the fact that he got so many other countries to support him in this obvious problem is one well deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize. Hats off to you Al Gore…and good luck in your future. Even those who seem turned off by your movie are probably just terrified and in denial…Global Warming is a HUGE chunk of information to grasp and most people don’t have the guts to see how deep it goes because it scares them. Thankfully you did.

A year ago I sent a letter to the Cincinnati Enquirer in response to a question “how can we reduce our dependency on foreign oil?” Basically, I said that the lower speed limit of 55 during the Arab Oil embargo of the 1970’s leveled off our demand for oil and the price of crude fell drastically. In addition, a lower speed limit would reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released in the ozone. I think the mere mention of lowering the speed limit by someone of Mr. Gore’s prominence would send shivers through the Oil Cartel. It certainly would get someones attention; my letter’s do not.

Hey Al Gore:
I have some info about the earth and it’s history, the Earth goes through Cooling & Warming cycles, each of which is several thousand years apart, just as the North & South poles switch Polarity every few thousand years, this is the Earths way of healing itself. In the St.louis , Missouri area ( Cehokia ) in the years from 600 AD. to 1100 AD. that area was ( TROPICAL ) the natives of that area lived in GRASS HUTS ! In that time it was a whole lot warmer than it is today ! The entire city of what was Cehokia was surounded by Cypress trees , these are a TROPICAL TREE !!! WOW the Earth must have COOLED down for about 1000 years , now it is warming again. One thing that is causing the earths problems is the world is so over-populated , the earth cannot sustain life in it’s present state of growth . Most of the third world countries do not practice birth control ! Even in the USA the ILLEGAL Immigrants try to have as many Anchor babies as they can to get a foothold in America , they do not care what effect this has on the enviroment or the country of America. I agree that this world is in need of help , but the biggest threat to Humanity is Over-population !

The DFA pulse poll ends tomorrow at midnight. Currently Al’s in 2nd place some 5,000 votes behind Kucinich. Dennis has 3 links to this poll on his front page, so naturally, his people are voting pretty constantly. No other candidate has placed links at there web sites. Hillary seems to be ignoring DFA completely. Nothing new there. 34,000+ out of 127,000+ people have voted for Al. I consider this a very good thing even if Al doesn’t end in first place.
I have been an active member of DFA going back to the summer of 2003. There is a lot of support for a Gore presidency among our members. I’d like to make a challenge to all of you to push Al’s vote over 40,000 by the end of tomorrow. I think we can do this.

With all the worry about pollution, global warming, carbon footprints, and such, why doesn’t anyone push companies to having telecommuting?
Full time telecommuting saves a lot of resources.
1. There are no commuting bad effects - wasted gasoline, pollution, wasted time.
2. Full time telecommuting means companies can have smaller buildings, using less energy to heat and cool, and have smaller parking lots, to allow more green space in cities.
3. There is less traffic congestion.
4. Fewer highways need to be built, so that the land stays green instead of covered in asphalt.
5. It reduces our dependency on foreign oil. If a commuter travels 20 miles round trip a day and has a 30 mpg car, about 166 gallons of gasoline are used and about $550 at today’s price. If there are 10,000 employees commuting instead of telecommuting, that is 1.66 million gallons of gasoline used for no reason than manager insecurity.
6. Companies can save a lot of money. Sun Microsystems has about 50% of its employees telecommuting and saves about $69 million per year as a result.
7. Most jobs do not require being in the company office. Most have to work there only so the manager can physically see them. It is possible it is only to justify the manager’s job. If that is the case, the savings could be more in that there would be reduced management costs.

Hello Mr. AL Gore, I am not from USA but as many people around the world I am concern about the environment, because that determinates our life on Earth. I would like to say that you have made an excelent documentary about global warming. These kind of work is very important, because in this issue the most important thing is change the conscience of the people and that´s a very difficult thing to do. That´s why I think that the role of the USA president is very important, because he can serve as an example for the entire world. Earth is our home, we have to take care of her, we can’t be selfish, we have to think in next generations. The problem cannot be eliminated or stopped, but it can be controloled. Let´s do it!

Dear Mr. Gore,
Congratulations on winning the Nobel Peace Prize and the Sierra Club Award! I want to thank you for your environmental activism. You have already made a difference in the way millions of people regard our Earth.
I am convinced the United Nations has the power to change our world for the better, and I believe that you have a chair in the UN Environmental Department, and you can encourage beneficial projects around the world. Mr. Gore, what do you think about a one-hour international TV broadcast from the UN about the environment? Such a program could promote education, provide good examples, and encourage people to submit their own ideas and solutions to the UN which could direct the most promising to the proper institutions.
The UN could also propose recycling plants around the world to help reduce the amount of landfill waste. As an ecologist and as a geologist, I realise the harm to groundwater and soil from landfill leachate.
I understand that it is so easy to advise and so much harder to implement in reality because of politics and other circumstances, but the UN has a dedicated, professional staff who are working to improve our present ecological condition. If in you need more specialists for the Environmental Department, I would be happy to be part of your team and would do my very best.
Mr. Gore, good luck with your future projects!

Its about time the US changes its why of think. ( stop thinking about themself )
Keep your good work going and dont let people like Capt Wild Bill Kelso bring you down.
They dont know what they are talking, and tell him that Cuba is in that state because of the US

Congrats Al!!!
Job well done. So many people are proud of you for speaking out on such an important issue. Please reconsider your run for presidency. A landslide win is in your future.
Pay no attention to the morons who posted negative comments. However, I would like to say to them, “having an IQ of an apple is no excuse for rudeness”.
Keep up the good work Al. I look forward to whatever you decide to do next.

Fifty years seems to be a long time, nominees http://nobelprize.org/ so you might not ever know. Recent news on MSNBC you might be interested in which could be how our DNA has become reality, just to think a 5th Dimension could be among Dimensions first occurring in the universe while ours requires ‘+’ and ‘-’ whats if theres something other than that, this is a new spin off the ideology of how DNA came to be, if there were dimensions in space that had no uniformity somtime before the planets evolved, then micro-mini DNA might have begun first, from this came mini DNA and the from out of one of the dimensions sprung forth this mini DNA sequence which would have then had to exist within the dimension we are in right now else it to would have ceased to exist so the DNA had to evlove but functions had to also manifest, the age of DNA loses functions because the chains are broken and the repair mechanism could change because of a shift of dimensional existance so evolution cannot be classified as being a direct influence to our DNA and therefore we did not evolve from aliens. Our DNA is proof that DNA cannot exist in all dimensions, nor could aliens or a theoretical space ship termed as a UFO which also could be a mini-micro DNA or higher than DNA sequence and I suspect that the later would be true based on it having evolved in another dimension which we do not know exists. Just because a function or related evolvement has not been found for Human Junk DNA does not mean the studies ever will reach into other creatures DNA which do not logically exist, studies are based on actual functions for current human DNA, nothing of comparison for alien anything. I read that a Amoeba (Amoeba dubia) is the largest genome so far with 670 billion base pairs of DNA, over 200 times larger than the human genome, while the genome of a cousin, Amoeba proteus, has a mere 290 billion base pairs. There are a lot of theories for Junk DNA but nothing to indicate their exact function so until the study has completed ther most likely will be nothing to compare the results to. If aliens had DNA as I figure from what descriptions I have seen they do not have mouths, they do not talk, they mimic communication via telepath means only, they do not depend of touch sensory perception and have less feelings for pain perception and have no equilibrium so how can they be classified as having DNA, perhaps a micro DNA would explain the non functions which DNA has been found to possess in humans. If then a micro DNA they do not need DNA as a means of mass producing their species and have some other key mechanism more advanced than DNA, who knows for sure what a alien has or has not, nothing to compare. Farom ‘beyond out of the woodwork’, not of this reality but a totally new realm.
Physicists probe the fifth dimension:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13070896/
I believe there is proof we can find this reality is similar to a invisible wormhole in space not as a described mini black hole, and can be created utilizing Dark Matter. If so the theory of Why we are stuck on earth cannot be true as we could create ourselves a new realm of existance without having to go far at all, invisibility may become reality one day so I would class ‘limbo’ as this space within a 5th deminsion and therefore not anywhere which is definable esp. as being on earth if earth were destroyed I would still be in ‘limbo’ and maybe forever if I couldn’t return to where I came from then where would I go.

Have you ever looked up the Milankovitch Theory/Principal?? Global Warming will happen whether or not we shut down all carbon dioxide producing devices or not. That includes us and the whales. The earth orbit and precession change over a 100,000 year cycle and cause ice ages and global warming. Did you know the earth is ice free every 100,000 years?? But then, don’t confuse him with the facts, Al’s mind is made up (and very small).

If you too all the people in the world, all 6.5 billion of them and reduced them to a seawater component and an average weight of 120 lbs (babies, women, big strapping guys, etc.) then the average size of a person becomes 2 cubic feet. This times 6.5 billion gives you a volume for ALL the people in the world of about 13 billion cubic feet. This is about a tenth of a cubic mile. AHHHHH, the arrogance that we really affect the earth more than a volcano or giant earthquake or the insects (who are a thousand fold larger and produce methane). I think the “scholars” are behind this global warming because they need to retain their tenure and G.W. is big business these days. Are you going ot stop China and India from expanding their economies? They both produce 14,000,000 cars a year. DUH!!

Al Gore should have labeled his movie a Convenient Lie, has anyone ever heard of Mother Nature? The world has from the beginning of time warmed and been in various cycles throughout history. Maybe Al could come to Michigan this winter and ask about our global warming. I wonder why the liberal news, entertainment industries fawned over someone who plays on people fears. He is a joke and people are gulible enough to actually believe him even though the world has cooled over the past ten years.
