Gore Hosts TriBeCa Film Festival’s Opening Night Gala

Al is slated to open this year’s festival. Looks like there will be 7 short films highlighting the ever-growing hot-topic of global warming at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. The films are part of a program organized by SaveOurSelves (SOS), a campaign to generate a mass movement to combat global warming.

The gala hosted by Gore will be staged at the BMCC TriPAC center in Manhattan and will include musical performances by acts taking part in the Live Earth series of concerts being held worldwide to increase knowledge of and concern for the climate crisis.

Is anyone planning on attending?

519,414 Signatures and Counting

That’s how many signatures Al collected before his hearing in front of Congress. Pretty amazing. Did you get a chance to sign it? If not, join in! It’s not too late. The link is below:

Gore Headed to Congress Today

Al’s headed to the Senate and House today to push government action on the global warming issue. The last I heard, his petition had close to 500,000 signatures, which he plans to present during his visit as well.

The Great Global Warming Swindle?

A new global warming documentary (screened on Channel 4 in the UK) has popped up challenging a lot of the points Gore makes in his Oscar winning documentary - mainly the claim that CO2 is responsible for rising temperatures. The main scientists in the piece to agree that temperatures are rising, but that the trend is a natural occurrence, and not attributable to greenhouse gases.
An interesting watch though. To expose yourself to ‘both sides of the coin’ (so to speak), I’d recommend watching.

What do you think? Have you seen this new documentary?

Al Gore’s Power Bill Explained

Ok, everyone seems to be in a tizzy over ‘power bill consumption’ story, I thought I’d quote Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider on a few important points.

1. Gore purchases enough ‘green-power’ to balance 100% of his power bill (green power which includes solar, wind, and methane gas).

2. Al participates in a utility program which sells off blocks of “green-power”, purchasing in excess of 16,200 kilowatts every month.

3. The Gore house is currently under renovation to install solar panels to help further satisfy its power consumption.

Furthermore, for every ton of carbon Gore does produce (airplane / car trips, etc.), he offsets those by investing directly in renewable energy sources.

My personal take? Yes, it’s a pretty big power bill, but if he’s offsetting those by using renewable energy, big deal… right? What’s your take?

Gore Wins Oscar for ‘An Inconvenient Truth’

Deservedly so (in our opinion), Gore won the Oscar for Best Documentary last night on the 79th Oscars - beating out Jesus Camp, Deliver Us From Evil, Iraq in Fragments, and My County My Country.

I’d be curious to see if the ratings for this years show were up over previous years, as I’d suppose many new viewers (me included) watched to simply see if Al would announce his intention to run..

Do you think Gore deserved this Oscar?

Oh Al..how you tease us..

So I, like may other Americans, sat in anticipation of a possible Presidential Run announcement from Al Gore during the Oscars. During his first appearance, introducing some random Oscar award, all he did was tempt us with the possibility.. oye.. : )
