Your Inconvenient Truth was great. Much better that George Bush’s Inconvenient Lie by telling Americans that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction to get us into war with Iraq. I have an answer for the ocean flooding caused by global warming. Build desalination plants all over the world to get all our water needs from the ocean instead of from freshwater reservoirs which cost money to build and consume more of our land. Build huge irrigation projects in subSahara Africa to use desalinated water from the ocean into the Sahara to build irrigation projects to feed the poor in Darfur and other regional poverty areas. This would help lower the oceans caused by global warming. Also reduce world population through more knowledge of birth control and in the United States, eliminate the income tax exemption on families having a third child.

    Al,

You are much more relaxed in your communication this year and you have the number one issue nailed…get the country off its oil dependency. I think you have a slam dunk if you can take Obama as the VP to run with you. We would kill two birds with this stone: getting off oil eliminates the Middle East’s money and ALL of their power and getting off oil will help our planet’s environment. There is nothing more important! You cannot compare any other issues. Mr. Gore is the only one who can make this the issue and with your nw star power you have the pull with the crowd.

Hi Al, Your on the right track my friend, but a bit to late, don’t you think ? I have seen the movie which consisted of mostly slides, photos, and information that most everyone knows. I am an old now and have known about the destination of our Planet sense the late 1940’s. Here is a quote from one of the late Einstein’s lectures during that period of time that could have helped in your quest, or should I say, movie. ” The Entropy of the Earth is increasing. It is man’s technology who is causing it, and it will have to be man’s technology in the future to fix it before it becomes irreversible” Well, its that time and nothing or no one can fix it now as the damage is done my friend. You have been informed about the greenhouse effect, but misinformed about what is truly about to happen to our World. Willy

Just goes to show the Documentary category is no longer about Documentaries but about Docutainment.. Michael Moore started the silppery slope with bowling for colmubine and Al Gore is enjoying the ride. A proper Documentary shows the subject or the data on the subject. It does not try to sway the audience one way or the other, it just presents the raw topic and you take from it what you will..’An Inconvenient Truth’ was not a Documentary. It was propaganda.

Al - please run for president! I like Barack Obama very much, but my husband, an older white male, is not enthusiastic about Obama, because he believes he is too inexperienced.
Our family joke was that my father, a very liberal Democrat, voted for Nixon in 1960 because he thought Kennedy was too inexperienced.
I therefore think you are the best, electable candidate, because I will wager that many older white males will deem Obama unqualified.
Besides, you RULE - as the younger generation says!!!!

Well I don’t consider this as a disagreement but more towards of an agreement. I agree that we need to do something about Global warming. I saw Al gores video and it really hit me that we need to do something quickly. Reducing the use of fossil fuels and other energy resources. Looking more into ethanol oils and less industrial factories that produce exotic and heavy pollution. People need to be more informed about global warming and what it can do to the world and how it effects them. Thanks for reading my comment and hopefully it makes a diffrence

I love how Al justifies buying “carbon credits” to justify his use of so much energy so he doesn’t have to change his lifestyle. He’s just another lieing politician…or trying to be one. Hypocrit fits the bill on this one.
I’ve also read a report that the company he’s bought “carbon credits” from isn’t just credit but stock in the company. If true, that’s hardly carbon credit. Carbon credit is silly really. All it does is justifies the polluting you are already doing not lessening it. And all based on how much cash you have.
Sorry Al, you still look like a schmuck.

The “inconvenient truth” is that al’s erroneous depicition of the natural cycle of climate change will never stand up even against the science of those who gave birth to the concept of global warming, which may explain his abstinence from debate or even interview with actual scientists. Grow some testicles, Mr. Gore. If you’re going to stake your claim on a lie, at least stand behind it with all you’ve got. Or wait… maybe that is all you’ve got.

I think that AL Gore should run for president. I think he WAS already the president once, and should get the chance to actually do it this time. He had proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that global warming is real, and so have the hundreds of scientists that agree with him him. We need someone that is not wasting our lives, money and time in Iraq, and with mud slinging, but someoen to get THIS country back to the greatest nation on earth, because the last 6 yeas have destroyed the view the rest of the WORLD has of us, and we are in FAR greater danger today than ever before. I believe Al Gore is a patriot. He has researched the climate crisis, realized how serious it is and worked tirelessly to do something about it. The fact that the topic is now being discussed seriously is because of Mr. Gore’s work. After losing the election in 2000 he could have walked away, concentrated on making money and left the world’s problems for someone else to solve. To his credit he choose otherwise. Whether you like Al Gore or not I feel he at least deserves everyone’s respect.

Taking care of the earth is a moral issue and I would very much like to have a president who saw the world from that perspective. Al Gore has that vision. He has demonstrated that he is a leader on the world stage - who better to lead our country in this time of need.

A race for the presidency is a punishing experience for the candidates and their families so if Gore decides not to run I’ll understand. However, if you do decide to run Al, I’ll contribute my time, money and energy to your campaign.

During Ronald Reagan’s 8 years in office he only used the word AIDS once in public speaking. Those 8 years were some of the most critic years that could have reduced the spread of AIDS if the white house would have acknowledged it as a public health crisis rather than just a gay epidemic. Global Warming has become this administrations ‘AIDS’. The past 6 years have been wasted on padding the pockets of the dirty Oil Industry of which are the reason George W was able to get elected to begin with. His (George W) comments last week about reducing our Oil dependency was too little too late. We need someone in office that believes that Global Warming is an ‘earthly epidemic’ of global proportion and not just an inconvenience that can be ignored or occasionally mentioning it to gain some support in the political arena. The republicans can say what they want about Al Gore and try as hard as they want to discredit him by inflaming stories about electric bills etc, but at least Al Gore has open the eyes of some Americans to realize that the next few years are the most important in the fight to reduce Global Warming and to save our planet. I think we need Al Gore to run in 08!

While there is no doubt that the environment is having a bad hair day, the only inconvenient truth I see is that Global Warming is a huge exageration; just another ruse to keep us “unwashed masses” in a constant state of fear. It is similar in many ways to the sham war on terror. What used to be the military-industrial complex, (which we were warned about by both George Washington, (remember him?) and Dwight D. Eisenhower), and is now the Military-Industrial-Congressional complex, is the only real benefactor of the near religious fervor with which these issues are regarded in this country by us dupes. We are the ones who are supposed to suffer and pay the price with our youth for the war and our comfort for the environment. Meanwhile, the “MIC” continues to reap unimaginable profits, both personal and corporate, from both issues. They know that as long as we fear some dire consequence, (mostly created by them), that we will allow them to do almost anything. The Patriot Act is a good example. They also continue to pollute. Mr. Gore’s carbon footprint is quite large, but he justifies it by “buying environmental offsets”. How nice for him. The mega-wealthy can continue their grand, environment damaging lifestyles while the brunt of the battle falls on the shoulders of the middle and lower class of America. What a great solution. This really should be called “The Empire Strikes Back”.

As a side note, I am curious about why Mr. Gore forgot to mention that raising animals for food is responsible for more damage to the environment than all of the cars, trucks, buses and other motor vehicle in America. Translated, this means that if we stop eating meat, we could reduce air-borne pollutants dramatically. This is supported by a four hundred page report on the subject done by the UN. Is it possible that Mr. Gore does not support this simple measure because vegetarians do not have much use for catsup? I wonder. I’m also curious why people who disagree with Big Al need their own forum. Why aren’l all comments printed in the same location.

I really agree with you. That is a fabulous idea- But where are we getting the money from? We need someone to run the states with an iron fist, you can whip our environmental ideas into reality- But no has the nerve to do it. Al is trying, but to tell you the truth, I believe its his management who really cares for the environment, and hes just along for the ride. He may care our the planet as much as the next guy, but I really have a hard teim buying that hes a regular environmentalist-picketing-chain-yourself-to-a-tree sort of man. Hes slipped up so many times while public speaking, I dont think he can do it. BUT I’ll support him, because those people who are driving him to “care” about our planet DO care, even if he doesn’t, or does less that he makes it out as.
As I was saying though- Whose going to pay for this? Our leading countries in the world (USA, Canada ect) have always talked about this sort of thing- But the authorities, who have hte power to make it happen, and to finance the endevor, never want to do it. They always pass the buck.
Do you REALLY think the government will want to pay far Africa to get an erregation system? No way. Theyll say its a good idea, but no one will want to pay for it.

I, for one, hope that Gore does not run for president this time around. First of all, no matter how popular former candidates may become, the major parties are always loathe to nominate someone who has already lost a race. It would be hard for a man who has run already to convince his party that he would be able to win this time. Secondly, he is a very polarizing figure (although the same can be said of Hillary…), and I’m sure the extreme-right smear machine would be regurgitating the same things they did in the 2000 campaign, e.g. “I invented the internet”, lack of charisma, etc.
Not to mention that it would give detractors even more ammunition to attack arguments on climate change; “See, it was all a publicity stunt to get back in the public eye,” and so on. I can hear it already…
And, on a last note, after reading the climate change skeptic’s websites and arguments, I am surprised at how little science is involved. They focus on percentages and figures to try and show how human contributions couldn’t possibly affect the climate, without explaining any of the observed phenomena. When the most advanced weather centers can’t predict with 50% accuracy beyond two or three days, how can people look at a bunch of numerical data and say “oh, that couldn’t cause a problem”? Humans contribute only a fractional percent of gases to the atmosphere? I’d give them this scenario: I was in London recently, and I took a tour of Big Ben. If I had a wrench that weighed a “fractional percentage” of the gears in that clock, and threw it into the middle of them, would it be a surprise when all hell broke loose?

    Dear Sir,
I am quite concerned about using corn products to help the environment and global warming. The reson for this is that I am highly allergic to corn. By this I mean that I have anaphylactic reactions to all corn products. I,as millions of others can not eat or be exposed to corn products. It is hard enough to avoid this in food, but if corn will be used in gasoline, clothing, etc., I fear I will live in the hospital. There is nothing more frightening than that. As with peanut allergies, corn allergy can be equally as deadly. Please consider this . As for me, I am afraid of corn being used to “protect” the environment. I would greatly appreciate it if you encouraged people to find something else. I can not even go to the movies because of popcorn. As I said before, it is hard enough to avoid corn, please do not put it into our environment. This is a very serious health concern that needs to be taken seriously .
    Sincerely yours,
    Afraid in Maryland

I am a hard working American who has raised four children and I have always lived from pay check to pay check. I love George Bush. I am not a Repuplican either. I will never vote for any Democrat as long as they cling on to these wacky, mind-numbing BS causes. The temperature on earth has been going up and down for millions of years. Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).
The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh–more than 20 times the national average.
Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh–guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359. Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

    Meanwhile back at the ranch,

Geothermal heat pumps located in a central closet circulate water through pipes buried 300 feet deep in the ground where the temperature is a constant 67 degrees; the water heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. Systems such as the one in this “eco-friendly” dwelling use about 25% of the electricity that traditional heating and cooling systems utilize.
A 25,000-gallon underground cistern collects rainwater gathered from roof runs; wastewater from sinks, toilets and showers goes into underground purifying tanks and is also funneled into the cistern. The water from the cistern is used to irrigate the landscaping surrounding the four-bedroom home. Plants and flowers native to the high prairie area blend the structure into the surrounding ecosystem.
No, this is not the home of some eccentrically wealthy eco-freak trying to shame his fellow citizens into following the pristiness of his self-righteous example. And no, it is not the wilderness retreat of the Sierra Club or the Natural Resources Defense Council, a haven where tree-huggers plot political strategy.
This is President George W. Bush’s “Texas White House” outside the small town of Crawford.

When someone, anyone, can prove to me that man has the power to make it rain for 5 minutes somewhere, I might believe that man can *do something* about global warming.

“Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed”

All of the theories on man-made global warming contradict the fact that man is powerless to change the nature of nature.

    Deal with it.

The reason that man is being blamed for global warming is that… yes… man can be commanded. And man can be made to feel guilt. And man can be convinced to *do something* about things through his guilt…. and that *something* will put a lot of dollars into certain people’s pockets.

If Al Gore truly thought that his movie could have a dramatic affect on people’s ability to understand and willngness to combat global warming, wouldn’t he give it out for free on the internet?

If Al Gore truly believed in man-made global warming, wouldn’t he change his OWN warming-causing lifestyle?

Stalin once said that *Religion is the opiate of the masses*. For those who have no religious beliefs, there is Environmentalism.

Don’t be misled. Ask questions. Be informed.

Al Gore, like other amateurs, is not an environmentalist. He is a politician. Politicians say what the people want to hear. They have no real solutions.
Our environmental problems are due to one thing, and one thing only: TOO MANY HUMANS ON THIS PLANET.
If we spend billions of dollars a year on educating the religious and political leaders of the world on the importance of having only 2 children, and the first not until age 30, then the world population will slowly lower to 1/2 of it’s current state in 100-200 years. Incentives can be given for having no children, and penalties in taxes and benefits for having more.
BUt he , like other politicians will not make any statements which might upset his voters. He seeks the easy way to win. Humans are selfish. They will sacrifice the future in order to have power and money. Reducing the population will save the planet. Anything else is pure rederick.

A person cannot possibly believe that there are not going to be major changes on a planet when more than six billion humans live on its surface, of which a massive percentage is directly and indirectly responsible for spewing millions of tons of pollution into the atmosphere every day. Our natural world is long time not what it used to be. We are exerting enormous unnatural strains on a delicate environment that has evolved within certain bounds. It is only logical that the planet must start to react differently.

Climate change is a very real issue. The fact is that we are changing our world, and the argument should not be about whether the “world is cooling down or heating up” as many commentators have suggested. Al Gore has on many occassions said that the result of global heating is that the climate pattern in a certain area may be exaggerated, i.e a dry area’s drought can worsen, and a naturally wet area may experience colder and wetter weather.

At least he is tackling an issue that many have been avoiding. Obviously he is encountering massive opposition, and a lot is said about someone who continues to fight for his belief system despite absolute persecution in public. Honestly - what does he have to gain by educating the world about climate changes except the satisfaction of doing something for the planet? It is not the most lucrative nor the most glamorous job, and with his talents he could have been earning a stack of money doing something else. Al Gore is doing what he believes is best, and we should respect and commend him for that. He is not a coward, and even (a big even) if his research is lacking at times (which I do not believe is the case), the fundamental issue that he is tackling is of absolute importance to our survival and that of our unique and exceptional planet, and just basic observation of the weather should be more than enough evidence. I live in South Africa where we a short while ago experienced 54 new weather records of minimum and maximum temperatures in the span of only two days - large amounts of the country was covered with snow and ice, in other parts rivers were bursting their banks and waterlogging the soil to such an extent that it seemed that the ground was intermittently lakes for as far as the eye could see. At the same time elsewhere wild fires were out of control. All this in a country renowned for its beautiful clear skies and consistently good weather.

Thus in my opinion the verdict is in - let us rather spend our time persecuting those who deserve it, and let Al Gore in peace so that he can in his own way do his bit for our planet. I am also of the opinion that Mr. Gore will be unable to defend himself against malicious rumours created in most part by the massive companies who rule this planet and profit from the pollution of the globe whose enterprises will deteriorate when humans become more informed and take a stand (perhaps the electricity company providing the “information” about his household’s electricity consumption might be one of these??).

Was each segment supposedly representing a year assessed adding up to 650.000 times? Even if you overcame the thousands of logical problems. all you would have would be self created Antarctic temperatures telling you nothing of the temperature in New York Rio or Los Angeles 650.000 times.
