Gore, Branson Offer $25M Prize
Looks like Al is teaming up with Richard Branson (of Virgin empire fame) to offer a $25 Million dollar prize for anyone who invents/develops a cost-effective way to remove greenhouse gas causing carbon from the atmosphere. The ‘Virgin Earth Challenge’, as they’re calling it, goal is to remove one billion tonnes of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere a year for ten years.
Have an idea? Sumbit it here:
Do you think anyone can win this?

EXCELLENT IDEA! If there’s a way, providing a big incentive can only help.
Btw, the Pixwit’s been holding in his CO2 too long. He’s now endorsing Al Gore for President . . . “Gore in 2008, before it’s too late!”

As an educator, I have helped my students study the “Greenhouse Effect” and find it to be very real. When asked if it is possible to invent something to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, I say yes! Nothing is impossible when your very life depends on it.

Hello;
Just a note, to say, YES!!! it is possible, to do this. How? Simple, just extract the co2, using nanotechnology, and then break it down to oxygen, and elemental carbon. release the oxygen, then use the carbon to make diamonds, or any other carbon based material you wish. sell it. The devil, is in the details. but, many people are trying to do this now.

I don’t see why factories aren’t under a law where they have to be EPA approved. In BC Canada, our wood stoves have to be EPA>the difference is, they have a seperate chamber that the emissions go into before being released into the air. In the chamber, the emissions are burnt about 3x over and over, reducing the amount released by 70%. Why can’t a seperate chamber be put into the chimneys in factories, where they do the same thing? It seems fairly obvious this should be done immediately. Personally, I don’t think any one person needs 25 million dollars. In this state that the earth is in, that money could go towards designing more environmentally friendly factories etc. 2 million would get anyone’s brain moving.
And yes, in Canada, everyone wants Al Gore to run for presidant and win. Before its too late. He’s our hero. Bush, is a disaster, and anyone you talk to in Canada will agree whole heartedly. No one wants him in power. That whole election with Gore and him, was a total conspiracy, everyone thinks it so obvious.

We need to capture our youth’s imagination to bug the parents to try harder to comply and change. The generations already in power will not willingly say oh yeah, I’ll give up this and this to have a better world unless something forces or teases us to make habits and ask for changes, like better cleaner factories, better cleaner transportation, using mass transit, creating alternative types of energy and making it affordable for the average person. And then convincing emerging countries that this is to their benefit as they are not going to care about the atmosphere, only making it upwards for their country and the businesses will shortcut and do what it takes to make a profit. The scientific approach to making things better is all well and good but getting the public to acknowledge and then act is the hardest part. And everytime someone brings up something that is basic and important, there are a lot of people that do not want it to happen (monied people that the timing is not right and/or puts their power position in question, it creates an imbalance that cannot be easily re-balanced etc) and so a red herring is thrown out there that is in some other venue that creates fear that feels more immediate. We need counterpoints exposing these diversions. So I see the problem being of keeping it in the forefront and keeping the pressure on being the most difficult point. I think the technology is there to use and develop. So create a mini-army of young people fervently commited to cleaning the earth and fill their heads with this and it might start working.

The Technology exists in the private sector to make this happen.
For the newest ideas to be validated, the judges will have to be open minded.
Some of the most Ancient Technology can still be applied today.
Sometimes the most effective solutions are shrouded in Simplicity, and are ignored because of the simplicity, in this world that has been driven by technology. The answers have been here, hiding in front of us. The solution
is laced in Intricate geometry, not complex formulas.
It is my sincere hope to be of assistance in this endeavor.
