Gore Headed to Congress Today

Al’s headed to the Senate and House today to push government action on the global warming issue. The last I heard, his petition had close to 500,000 signatures, which he plans to present during his visit as well.

Did you sign the petition?

Mr. Gore — I’m writing today to encourage you to include in your conservation initiatives an area of concern which seems to be almost entirely neglected, and that is sustainable landscaping using native plant species. When people speak in terms of global warming, they speak about conservation of water, air and fossil fuels, and about increased urbanization, but they neglect to consider the damage done by invasive plant species and over-use of herbicides and pesticides caused by day-to-day landscaping practices.

I believe that you’ll find, for example, that runoff from the various watersheds is the largest contributor of phosphorus to all bodies of water in the USA. This extra phosphorus is not only a problem for residents because of the contamination of our drinking water, but also to boaters and fisherpersons for problems this contamination brings to their sporting events. Here in the USA, it is also a known fact that more of this type of contamination comes from residential and business landscaping than it does from all the farming enterprises. As the underdeveloped countries become more affluent, they will likely come to experience many of these same abuses so we need to address this problem now worldwide.

I belong to a not-for-profit educational organization called Wild Ones Natural Landscapers. Our mission is to help people learn about sustainable landscaping through the use of native plants — plants that developed with the diversified community of life surrounding them. They don’t need extra water or herbicides or pesticides to sustain them; their roots go deep into the ground to gather all the nutrients and moisture they need from Mother Earth.

I invite you to learn more about natural landscaping and using native plants in landscaping, and I very sincerely encourage you to include this conservation initative in your list of inconvenient truths. You can learn more about this need at the Wild Ones website www.for-wild.org.

Thank you for listening — Donna 920-730-8436

    Mr. Gore,

I liked your focus during the hearings today. You are in your best form this way.

You were very focused today and completely unaffected by the opposition.

Why don’t you run for President? As the former Vice President of the United States you have the knowledge.

Anyway, you were right on target today.

    Good Job.

Thank you so much explaining carbon offsets. You have cleared up alot of answers for me. I own a Timber Farm in Louisiana and according to your carbon offset theory, I can use all the carbon energy and any other energy I want to without harming the environment!! I don’t have to do a darn thing extra in order to assist in cleaning the environment. Outstanding!!!!!

Al Gore needs to be listened to-I know. I am nobody and poor to boot, but I am also a person who has grown up on this planet and I notice things like the weather…and I noticed changes before Al Gore ever started bringing it to others’ attention. I’m 55 and grew up in a time when government meant something besides power and corruption. I have watched my native state of Indiana stripped of tree rows and forests in the name of progress, I know how laws are bent on chemical spraying and how land that is dead from years of chemicals is then made into sub-divisions, where people raise children. I’ve watched the woods cut down-hell, in Indiana they call them wood ‘lots’ ..its all they have left of the rich river bottom woods which once covered the state. I live in New York state now, near the Susquehanna, which is on the verge of flooding again. There are river gulls hanging around in the snow while the river is obvious from my yard, which never happens this time of year, but happens a lot the last couple years. When you are older and a homebody by nature, you notice the weather more. Not that I think you’ll win any battles, but good luck Mr. Gore, nontheless. Sue Dangerfield

    Hello To You Al Gore,
I was watching CNN today. They showed a quick clip where one of our white house idiots had made the statement about how “ALL” the scientists, geologists, and Forcasters, Nasa specilists and whoever else you could think of were “ALL” wrong and Al was right….

For the first time in my 51 years of life, a person who screws people from the white house has finally spoken a statement of truth. I almost passed out. Then I thought about the truth of his stupid statement, as always… Those idiots in the white house will ALWAYS give some stupid reason for their deciding to waste time, abuse the public welfare, and then, after its too late, will spend billions on a cleanup of sorts with the new official telling the public that this could have been avoided if only “…”!

We All have to impeach the entire white house and start over with people who have HEARTS instead of DEEP POCKETS…

    Dear Sirs,
I would be obliged if you could pass this on to Mr Gore. Thank you.

    Dear Mr Gore,
Water in solid form (i.e. ice) occupies more volume than water in liquid form. Given this, why does global warming lead to a rise in sea levels? Surely, the reverse should happen?

I have not heard this point ever mentioned and am intrigued as to the answer.

    Thank you for your time.

    Yours sincerely,
    Andrew Lyons.

My name is Jason Hagan, I am twenty four years old, I served in the United States Army, I am a full time college student and worker, and soon to be a proud father. Until recently, myself and many others in my age group and younger have not directed our attention to almost any sort of political agendas, debates, elections, etc. In fact myself and others have never even cast our vote in any election. When anything even somewhat political showed its face around us we turned the other way or “changed the channel”, as it were, not because we were too busy, or unable to understand politics. We did this because we didn’t care, because we have not been able to find something that drives us more than what we are trained to do, work. Things have changed…… I remember just a couple years back my family and I, and a few friends, went to our cabin in Iliamna Alaska for a few weeks in the summer. Being a family of pilots, we flight planned as usual, calculated temperature (the ladies hate a bumpy ride), distance, estimated fuel, checkpoints, all the good stuff. We made our list of goodies to take, loaded the plane and off we went. After two days of flying and half a dozen “barf bags”, we were over Iliamna Alaska, of course on approach we first had to overfly the cabin and the river to get everyone excited. How often do Arizonans like us get to migrate North for a few weeks and leave the 110 deg. days behind? The excitement rose, the cold tires sounded off when they ever so gently caressed the runway, the engines were brought back to a whisper. The plane became quiet, everyone held their breath for the first step off the plane. It all built up to this, I almost floated out of the left seat of this Cessna 401 that was becoming smaller and smaller every moment. I placed my hand on the door release, my every movement observed by my anxious family. The door opened as expected, the stairs fell, and there it was…….. A 92 degree 10MPH gust swept through the plane, incinerating every smile in sight. What was historically 55-75 degree weather became this awe struck silence that brought us straight back to Arizona again. The permafrost is melting, causing buildings to collapse, what was once a secluded relaxing wonderland, became a reminder of exactly what we were trying to vacation from. Since then I have changed, we changed, everyone in that plane. At first we did not quite understand the implications of this new sequence of events, regardless of it’s empirical evidence, or lack there of, that was not the point. The point is that I began to care….. I came home and told this story to friends, who at the time didn’t care, until they started to pick out things in their own life that bothered them. I told this to people again and again, I wanted to know if anyone else cared, if I was the only one that wasn’t satisfied, if anyone else would come together on a common ground regardless of who or what they are. The more and more we exchanged ideas, the more people gained interest, and what was once a somewhat hibernation of ideas, spawned into an outcry for answers. Until now I haven’t seen so many people my age care about something that, until recently, did not exist to us. I am proud to now report we regularly watch C-SPAN, read papers, research the Internet for the truth, and for the first time, many of us are planning on participating in our first presidential election. Don’t you see? The future is watching you, we are no longer fooled, the days of ignorance are over, and together we have a voice. We believe, we fathom ideas, we are taking time out of our days to find the truth, we love our country, and now we plan on changing our vote for the ones who look us in the eye and prove to us that they really do care. Let us not forget that the United States government is for the people. Let our families keep us strong and our children inherent a proud legacy. We would like you to help us find the sources that tell us the facts. We don’t want to just vote from time to time, we want to be active. Tell us what we can do to fight for our future on the political field. Come speak to us on campus, we want to hear what you have to say one on one. Your ideas, beliefs, intentions, they are important to us, bring it on.

    Dear Al Gore,

My name is Martha Osorio and I live in Rome. First of all I would like to tell you that I regret that you are not the US president I was deeply touched by your documentary and by your background. Even if previously I was sensible to the warning climate problem I did not know how to contribute myself to solve the problem. Presently, I am applying most of your suggestions in my daily life, but I feel that I can and need to do much more.
For the last ten years I have worked as a consultant for FAO in the Gender and Development Division in Rome. Until now I have spent most of my professional life fighting for a more equitable world where women and men may have the same rights and opportunities. Even if I still belive in those values and if I think that efforts and ressources have to be devoted to construct a more equitable and democratic world, I am convinced that in this moment priority has to be oriented towards saving the future of the planet. Within this context I would like to give a new direction to my professional life, so at the moment I am looking for new job opportunities. I would like to use my capabilities and time working for the survival of our earth. I don’t know exactly why I am contacting you and which can be your answer, but I felt that may be you could have some suggestions or proposals.

    Warm regards,

    Martha Osorio

I agree the curent climate is not getting enough atention. We all need to reduse our dependance on midle east oil. Co2 polultion, methane emitions world wide climate change is a hoax to some and we need to pay attention to the real threat that looms ahead. We all need to sit back relax and take a deep breath. Sociaty is growning at an alarming rate in India, China in perticular. Both countries are rapidly adding new polulution emissions into the global atmosphere and we a human beings better wake up and see the big picture. We all share ONE PLANET and we better come to grips with the reality of the big picture. Wake up America and do what is right. Reduce our ever growning dependance on cheap fule and study what each of us can do individuely to IMPROVE the current situation.

It is always great to see you speak. With all the chaos thats gong on in this country I always wonder what things would be like if you were sitting in the seat you should have been in all this time. This would be a much different world and we would be 6 years farther ahead at cleaning up our planet. I noticed that whomever you were talking with during your discussion with the panel you were always treated with respect dispite the political party ( except acouple tough guys) lol. You are a true gentleman and it is refreshing to know that you do your homework. I am totally green and a great part of it is from research. It is easy to be judgemental when you dont want to hear the topic but I suggest they keep their mouths shut until they know the facts. I totally respect you and you will always have my and all my friends vote.

Yes, and I didn’t sign it for the same reasons your people did. I signed it because I care about this issue, not because I will now use it to push a political agenda and to get my name in the newspaper by bragging about what a “friend” I am to him. Really, the people at algore.org have the biggest egos I have ever seen. You might as well just tell people here that your whole draft is nothing but a job interview for yourselves anyway. And if people really cared about this crisis here they wouldn’t have waited for the movie to come out to suddenly care about it.

    Mr Gore,

I started to watch your presentation to congress, but had to stop within the first 5 mins, becasue after the greeting and brown nosing that you did for the first 4mins 30 secs the first statement out of your mouth was 100% unscientific and untrue.
saying that the ice core record reinforces you idiodic statment of: the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has been about 300 parts per million for the last 12000+ years. That is a lie sir and if you truely beleive it then you are lying about the research you yourself have done on Global warming.

    Dear Mr. Gore,

I would first like to comment on how extremely inspiring your documentary was. My family and I have taken measures in our home to do something about the global warming issue. I recommend, as an educator myself, that you speak to young people about this issue. You have touched a nerve with the young and they are the ones who will be around long enough to create the necessary change. My son will be attending a highschool where self suffiency and stewardship are taught. Schools like Family School and Midland School in Los Olivos, California should be recognized for how they teach students about conservation i.e. growing their own crops, installing solar panels etc. I recomend you visit these schools and show others how the future of our planet can be wonderful when children are taught to love our Mother Earth.

I have to say, I justed watched your documentary and i am deeply inspired. I have never felt so scared and upset about this situation before. I fear for my children who are very young and what they may have to endure in the future. I hope that Congress will finally do something about this entire issue.
