Yahoo! Introduces Yahoo! Green
Found a very cool new section within Yahoo today titled “Yahoo! Green”
what is it?
Well, it’s an area where everyday people, like you and me, can research news and facts, calculate our CO2 footprint, and - importantly - what steps we can do to minimize our impact on global warming.
We’re really encouraged that Yahoo has taken this step, and hope everybody drops by this great resource!

I like averything you are doing to protect the enviroment, but there is something that no body is caring to talk about, or haven’t got the guts to do it.
I have leaved in this country for almosst 40 years, and come from Colombia. I have started a project, but no body is listenening to me.
If you are interested in what I have to say please let me know.

here is something that was e-mailed to me. Which seems to be wrong for Gore to be talking greenhouse warming and living in this house.
LOOK OVER THE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE FOLLOWING TWO HOUSES AND SEE IF YOU
CAN TELL WHICH BELONGS TO AN ENVIRONMENTALIST.
HOUSE # 1:
A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas.
Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house all heated
by gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the
average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for
electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400.00 per month. In natural
gas alone (which last time we checked was a fossil fuel), this property
consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home.
This house is not in a northern or Midwestern “snow belt,” either.
It’s
in the South.
HOUSE # 2:
Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university,
this house incorporates every “green” feature current home construction
can provide. The house contains 4,000 square feet
(4 bedrooms) and is nestled on an arid high prairie in the American
southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps
drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The
water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and cools it in
summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas,
and
it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a conventional
heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and
funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from
showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and
then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land
surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area blend the
property into the surrounding rural landscape.
HOUSE # 1 (20 room energy guzzling mansion) is outside of Nashville,
Tennessee. It is the abode of that renowned environmentalist (and
filmmaker)
. . . Al Gore.
HOUSE # 2 (model eco-friendly house) is on a ranch near Crawford,
Texas.
Also known as “the Texas White House,” it is the private residence of
the President of the United States . . . George W. Bush.
So whose house is gentler on the environment? Yet another story you
WON’T hear on CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC or read about in the New York
Times or the Washington Post. Indeed, for Mr. Gore, it’s truly
“an inconvenient truth.”

What’s Al Gore’s carbon footprint?
3 mansions (one of which uses 20 times the energy of an average home)
Flies all over the world to make money giving slideshow presentations, sometimes using private jets (1000s of lbs of CO2 per flight)
Looks like Gore’s carbon footprint is high. Ah, but it’s OK, because he buys carbon credits from himself!
Al Gore is a fraud. A massive, money-grubbing fraud who is using global warming to make himself richer.
Open your eyes!

Al is so full of crap that I can smell it all the way here in Canada. The eruption in Washington State not to long ago emitted a thousand times more CO2 than did all the fossil fueled industry and automobiles sense the beginning of the industrial revolution. The melting of the ice is natural occurring phenomena…. a evolutionary process that has happened in the past, only we are just witnessing this in our time and age. How many volcano’s do you think are emitting CO2 right now ? Lets put the blame and cause on the facts alone. I just watched Opra with him on her show. She asked him, ” How do people find out about all this?” He said, ” Buy my CD or video ” That’s what Al is all about. If he was a green as he claims he is when he was running for president he would be the President now. He says he has been a environmentalist for 20 years…that’s crap too. Tell people the truth instead of picking pockets old chap.

Though I’m a Republican and disagree with Al Gore on most subjects, I’m convinced that he is absolutely correct regarding the fact that global warming is coming and that there will be dire consequences if left unchecked. What I disagree with is his (and everyone else’s) “bandaid” approach to reversing the trend. The basic cause of all the problems is quite simple. Our precious planet cannot support the current massive global population without damaging the environment. And, it’s only going to get worse unless something is done about it. Simply put we need less people and more trees on the earth.
People breathe in our air and breathe out carbon dioxide. Trees, on the other hand, breathe in air and breathe out oxygen. Most all of the modern conveniences that make our lives easier (automobiles, air conditioners, heaters, boats, etc.) and the factories that produce them and other products produce carbon dioxide and other gases as waste.
The more people on the planet, the more of these products are produced. The more people on the planet, the more trees are cut down to make homes for them.
The obvious answer is to start limiting the birth rate somehow. If we don’t, somewhere down the road we will have to take more drastic measures. Have you seen the old movie “Soylent Green?”
Here is an idea for a start: Rather than reward people with tax breaks and higher welfare payments for having more children, why not penalize the very people who irresponsibly have too many children? Make the first child “a freebie” and charge them dearly for subsequent children. I know this sounds terrible on the surface. I believe in personal freedoms more than most, but we have to sacrifice some things in order to leave a habitable planet for our children and grandchildren. Don’t you think it’s worth it?

Hi Diana, Well I care, and I will listen to you. I know exactly what you are talking about. My project, is how to fix our planet. I have been a environmentalist for 50 years and have been pounding on Government’s doors for the last 40 years in telling them and even showing them how to prevent and stop pollution emitting from many sectors of industry including Radiation pollution from Uranium mine tailings, Radioactive Fly-Ash, Radon Gas. I have been to Chernobyl three times and spent much time in the Sarcophagus at Chernobyl Reactor # 4. I have successfully demonstrated technologies for fighting pollution in so many areas. I even demonstrated to the Government in 1974 how to trap carbon from escaping into the atmosphere. I am still waiting for someone to implement what I have researched and discovered for so long. I actually cleaned up a oil spill on Passage Island in B.C. in 1974 as well. I can go on and on if you care to listen too. Please type in my name at Wikipedia and it will take you to a site I am trying to build. Willy

Oh, by the way, Gore is not a doer, only a talker who doesn’t know what he is talking about. I, on the other hand, am a doer and talker and I know what I am talking about. Ho you think big Al would spend his money, time and back-breaking labor to clean up a oil spill, or risk his life to stopping CO2 ?……Willy

Why won’t Gore debate anybody?
Why are other planets getting warmer? Are we polluting so bad that it’s actually contagious? Infecting other planets?
Oh, my gosh!

I’ve written a poem about this very subject. It was only after the poem was written that I saw the film “Inconvenient Truth”. I found that my personal observation was in line with Al Gore’s movie. Kudos to you Mr. Gore. This was a message that was long overdue. In spite of criticism that you received early on, the truth in our environment has prevailed.
Planet Earth
Unpredictable, it has become; it used to be reliable, like the rising sun.
Is it cyclical like some people say? Or could it be, that We made it this way?
Now we have rain in places that once were dry. Extreme heat in the summer; great storms in the sky.
Pounded by snow and frozen by ice; Is it a natural effect? Or, has this been our price?
Buried alive by the quaking earth in Iran. Is this natures wrath or was it made by man?
Drowned by tsunami’s from the Indian Ocean. Shaking the earth’s core; creating an unnatural motion.
Infestations of insects in Florida and the Midwest; Could it be nature’s ire or is it the earths stress?
Perhaps it’s timing and the timing is just. Or, maybe its the earth simply purging us?

Hello, I think Al Gore is very good and Knowledgable. I am watching An Inconvienent Truth right now. I also think that he would be a good president for the United States and that would benefit the world, as he seems quite intelligent. I am a Canadian, and I am also half American. My father is still an American. My family has a great history in both countries. I will get to the point, I would like to know if there is any way I can contact Mr Gore directly, or if you know, forward this to him. I am a Global Warmong sceptic, I believe it is happening, however, I also know many facts from research done in this area. I believe that it has been blown out of proportion, here is why: In the early 90’s they did lots of drilling in the area of Drumheller, Alberta. It seems that it hadn’t rained in certain parts of Alberta in years, and the drilling was to an enourmous depth and it was discovered that a regular routine drought was happening in north america. Less rain, higher tempratures, less vegitation to intake CO2, therefore, the earths temprature has been raising. In N. Alberta in some places it rained for the first time in years in 2004. I was posted to one small town with the army, and food for stock was trucked in from all over Canada to help these farmers and ranchers. My cousin was one of them, he owns a bull farm. When this drought is completely over, there will be more vegetation, more rain and more CO2 being disposed of by the environment and therfore, lowering the temprature of the earth. We musn’t forget how hurricanes play a part in cooling the earth’s oceans to lower temprature’s as well, so also we will see an influx of very large and destructive hurricanes. All of these must be put into consideration when looking at the global warming issue. Like I said, I do believe global warming is happening, I just think it is being blown out of proportion and people are taking advantage of this to generate an income for themselves. I do not think Al Gore is one of them, I feel his intentions are just and honest. However, he does have his own agenda. We have all seen a hike in prices of many products on the market with claims that it is due to the Kyoto Agreement, as well as global warming in general. The point is, these hikes are being generated by the use of scare tactics by certain groups to benefit their own cause and agenda. I think the oil and gas industry is the most noticable, but not the only one, it can be used as a good example. I think I would like to say, it would be bad for the global economy to blow this out of proportion, as things get more expensive every time some one says something bad will happen. We can also blame global conflict on certain product hikes as well, either way, those are the greedy people that have no place in our society. I really feel, Al Gore would be a good candidate to use ALL of the facts to get the point across. However, this is only my humble opinion, and have not seen enough facts either way to give reason NOT lower pollutants into our environment, but I have not seen enough facts to justify the panic that is creating obvious hardship on the global economy. God bless the Earth, as we all came from africa anyhow, and that is just the facts. Sincerely, another freezing Canadian!

I believe that I have a method of reducing some of the effects of drought such as minimalized crops, forest fires, and deaths from forest fires. It will not be cheap, but how much is a life worth, or reducing our dependance on foriegn fuels. There are no hazardous emission, and after implementation it can be self sustaining.

I think that we should protect the enviroment by picking up on the side of the high way and that we should get less wnergy through the car emissions. But you might want to think about other not your self that is more important right now. Thank you

I have often heard comments of the space program damaging
the ozone layer and causing global warming. If this is so,
why do we have a space program, if it is damaging the earth
and we can’t inhabit any other planet?

“Tad Murty, oceanographer; adjunct professor, Departments of Civil Engineering and Earth Sciences, University of Ottawa: global warming “is the biggest scientific hoax being perpetrated on humanity. There is no global warming due to human anthropogenic activities. The atmosphere hasn’t changed much in 280 million years, and there have always been cycles of warming and cooling. The Cretaceous period was the warmest on earth. You could have grown tomatoes at the North Pole”

Tadepalli Murty belongs to a group that wants Canada to abandon their commitment to the Kyoto Treaty. They’re supported by energy industry contributions (surprise, surprise) and twp large papers. A Canadian website that exposes these PR effort explains that they changed their name last year -
http://www.desmogblog.com/discredited-friends-of-science-emerge-as-the-natural-resources-stewardship-project
TS Murty is a ocean-civil engineer who specializes in tides, tsunamis and ocean waves. Checking the science literature (google scholar) shows that Murty hasn’t published any original work in climate science. Putting a lot of weight in his un-expert opinion might be just as wise as asking a lawyer to remove your child’s appendix.
His comment about the Cretaceous era has little relevance to today’s climate because of vastly different continent positions (affecting ocean currents) and other factors. High on the list is the fact that CO2 in those days was 4 - 5X higher than today’s levels. (so much for the atmosphere not changing much).

Why Al Gore won’t debate? Because there are inconvenient truths Al Gore would like to ignore; (a) Reality and records show approximately a 1 degree overall global temperature change - if even that - in the last 100 years (b) Arctic caps are actually larger than they were, 100 years ago (c) Ooops, sorry but we didn’t get all those nasty hurricanes forecast this year Al - damn those cold fronts (d) In the words of John Coleman “Global warming is the biggest scam ever perpetuated” on the world (e) Al would lose all that wonderful grant money, truth be known (f) Sorry Al, but you need to take your little trophy home and turn out some of those lights you left burning.

P.S. Let us not forget the Russian outposts and weather monitors abandoned because of extreme cold… which of course changes your average temps because they are no longer a part of Al’s equations in calculating the earth’s temperatures…

… and while I have your attention; if the logging industry were allowed back in the forests, you would find the logging and clearing helps minimize fires. I am 53 years old. I grew up on the west coast in Oregon and California. I guarantee you, growing up in the 50, 60’s and 70’s, we never had so many devastating forest fires, as we do today. There was better forest management before the Sierra Club and the Al Gores discovered government grant money available to liberal causes. Liberalism is a mental disorder and it must be stopped in 2008. You decide. Register and vote.
